Greyhound Racing

Greyhounds are strong, healthy dogs. They are very active and need a ton of attention. But people take advantage of their passion to run and turn it into a way for people to make money. Greyhound racing is not okay, they are forced to run for hours every day. Grey hounds are very sensitive to extreme weather conditions as in below zero weather and scorching hot temperatures.
There have been 11,700 reports of dead greyhounds because of racing. This is mostly from broken bones, crushed sculls, and more than 3,000 broken legs! Many greyhounds are drugged with cocaine and steroids to make them stronger. Greyhound racing is only illegal in 7 states; Arkansas, Iowa, West Virginia, Alabama, Arizona, and the most popular Florida.

In the 7 states that are legal there are these stadiums; Birmingham, Bluffs Run, Ciliate, Daytona Beach, Derby lane, Ebro, and Flagler. There are many upcoming races that people go to thinking, “This is a great thing to do with the family.” Not knowing they are paying people to kill helpless dogs.
To wrap up, greyhounds are taken advantage of and need to be saved from this cruel sport. These dogs need to have a safe home where they can be loved and not loved for the money they make. You can donate money or your time if you search online, ‘’What can I do to help greyhounds?’’

Canned Hunting

Canned hunting might sound like something as lame as catching a bird in a can, but it is much more than that. I was unsure what canned hunting was until I watched a video online about it. Canned hunting is really animals being raised in captivity to be hunted. The poor animals are forced to live in a specific area that is fenced in where tourists pay to  kill the animals.
Lions are the most popular animal used for canned hunting but many other animals are involved. There had been a recent incident with canned hunting when Cecil the lion was killed by a dentist in South Africa.  America was furious and there are many fundraises and campaigns that are helping this case.
Obviously this is not good and is one of the many reasons why lions are endangered. When someone says the word ‘’Africa,’’ I imagine safaris, cool outfits, and lions. Lions are beautiful, majestic creatures that are meant to be wild, not living and dying in a tourist trap!

In conclusion, canned hunting is not a great idea, in fact, it is a horrible idea. To stop this act we need many signatures, emails and a lot of money to fight it, but if a ton of people contribute then we can definitely make a difference.
