I've witnessed brawls, curiosity, fear, happiness (bees diving inside flowers and bathing in the pollen) and fatigue. I would describe them as having personalities, and quite different even within the same species. Others would call it simply their nature. I don't know which it is. I think all this time and observation is what has helped me feel so connected to my bees.
I headed out to a very dry field of weeds today to discover some tiny life. I've spent hundreds of hours in the field exploring tiny life. I've learned a lot about many tiny creatures. It's not the kind of stuff you read about in books. It's hands on things from interacting with my subjects. I have often blogged about my personal experiences with them.

I am blown away by the beauty of your photography. What kind of purple ant is that? It is so cool looking.

Thank you for such a tremendous compliment. The 'purple' ant is just from the sunlight and reflection of other colors in the scene. It's a little 'ol black ant. Ants some of the hardest tiny creatures to photograph because the are often in constant motion, and it's hard to get all the parts of their body in focus at one time - at least with my limited equipment. In the second to last photo of the ant, a tiny bit of an insect is coming through her mouth. Most of the insects were eating today. I have one with the beetle where it looks like he was eating an ambush bug. That's another interesting part of macro photography; getting to see what we miss with the naked eye. I used to see insects 'groom' themselves, and then upon closer inspection, I realized they were stuffing the legs and arms of their lunch into their mouths! Of course, they do groom, but now I know how to tell the difference. I'm so glad you enjoyed these.
